The NCP is set to propose Rajya Sabha MP Sunetra Pawar as Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister following Ajit Pawar’s death, with senior leaders holding consultations on succession, Cabinet induction and the party’s future strategy within the ruling Mahayuti alliance.

Shashi Tharoor met Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi in New Delhi to address his grievances, after which he said the leadership was “on the same page”.

The high-level meeting will be attended by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, and party General Secretary (Organisation) K.C. Venugopal. Senior leaders will deliberate on the current political situation in the state and chalk out future organisational and electoral strategies.

Rijiju's remarks come after Defence Minister Rajnath Singh chaired an all-party meeting today ahead of the Budget session, which will begin on January 28 and run until April 2.Rijiju also said that discussions must adhere strictly to established parliamentary rules.

While media reports have been swirling about the four-time MP weighing his options, Tharoor reportedly told Chennithala he has no immediate plans to quit.

“This is why the state's economy is continuously deteriorating. Debt is skyrocketing, and no constructive work is being done. Haryana's economy is lagging behind on every parameter. This is the reason why the state, which had a debt of only Rs 70,000 crore from its formation until 2014, now has a debt of Rs 5 lakh crore,” he said.  

BJP leadership has promptly responded to the sensitivities of the issue and denied from day one that it may be seen as an individual opinion not the party’s stand. However, the BJP has maintained that it is of the firm view that Omar Abdullah government continues to adopt policy of discrimination with Jammu. 

The political landscape in Tamil Nadu is already vibrating with activity— the AIADMK has hit the ground running with its "Save Tamil Nadu" slogan, while the ruling DMK is leaning heavily on its welfare record, particularly its schemes for women.

The group — comprising former block presidents, Mahila Congress secretaries, and youth leaders — did not hold back in their parting shot.

"I have been in Congress for the past 17 years. Let's not go too far…as far as I am concerned, whatever has gone wrong needs to be addressed, and it will be addressed in an appropriate forum," he cited.
