One of India's most important religious pilgrimages, the Char Dham Yatra began on April 22 with traditional rituals at the sacred shrines. The Kedarnath Yatra commenced with the ceremonial departure of Lord Kedarnath's Panchmukhi palanquin from the Omkareshwar Temple, its winter abode.

According to police, the victim had travelled from Kerala to the Sankijahan area of Kultali for work-related purposes and was visiting an acquaintance. On the morning of June 9, he reportedly went to a local market but accidentally wandered into an unfamiliar neighbourhood.

In a notable departure from previous occasions, the scene at the CGO Complex lacked the heightened security arrangements typically seen during the appearance of a high-profile leader.

The boy allegedly recorded an obscene video of the victim and used it to blackmail her, they said. He was arrested after a complaint was registered by the girl’s mother on Sunday, the police said.

The AIMIM had already fought in Uttar Pradesh in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls along with Apna Dal (Kamerawadi).
