Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Saturday accused the Congress of fragmenting Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) votes, as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) surged ahead in the Delhi polls.
Despite backing from bloc constituents like West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's Trinamool Congress (TMC) and Akhilesh Yadav's Samajwadi Party, AAP faced a setback as Congress fielded its own candidates.
Posting on X, Omar Abdullah quipped, "Aur lado aapas mein [and continue fighting each other]!!!".
His post was a response to political analyst Manisha Priyam, who suggested Congress was siphoning off votes from AAP, tilting the advantage in BJP’s favour.
Trends indicated the BJP had already crossed the majority mark, setting the stage to form the next government in Delhi.
The saffron party is currently leading in 42 seats, while the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) holds the advantage in 28 constituencies. A majority of 36 seats is required to form the government in the 70-member Assembly.
AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal has maintained a lead from the New Delhi constituency, where he is contesting against BJP's Parvesh Verma and Congress’ Sandeep Dikshit, with a margin of 254 votes.
However, several senior AAP leaders, including Saurabh Bharadwaj and Atishi, are trailing. Bharadwaj faces a deficit of 459 votes against BJP’s Shikha Roy in Greater Kailash, while Atishi trails BJP’s Ramesh Bidhuri by 1,149 votes in Kalkaji.
