Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Raghav Chadha expressed optimism about his party’s chances in the ongoing Delhi Assembly elections on Wednesday citing AAP's governance achievements in health and education.

Chadha urged voters to recognise the party’s sincere efforts to address pressing civic issues such as electricity, water, and healthcare.

"I appeal to people to come out of their homes and cast their votes and participate in this great festival of democracy. Aam Aadmi Party has fought the elections with a lot of hard work, with truth and honesty... I am confident that this time too we will be successful in getting the love and blessings of the people and will once again be engaged in the service of Delhi," he stated.

Chadha pointed out the significance of delivering results and emphasised that Delhiites would vote for parties that demonstrated tangible development.

"People of Delhi will vote for a good health system and a good education system, keeping in mind basic issues like electricity, water, education, and health and will vote for a party which has shown its work, whose work has made Delhi happy... I see Aam Aadmi Party having an upper hand," he added.

Polling for all 70 Assembly seats in Delhi, along with by-polls in Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh, began on Wednesday morning. Voting, which commenced at
7 am, was conducted amid heightened security measures.

According to the Election Commission of India, the national capital recorded a voter turnout of 8.10 per cent as of 9 am. The North East district registered the highest turnout of 10.70 per cent, followed by the South West district at 9.34 per cent. New Delhi recorded a sluggish turnout of 6.51 per cent.

Other districts also reported modest participation rates, with East registering 8.21 per cent, North 7.12 per cent, North West 7.66 per cent, and Shahdara 8.92 per cent.

The high-profile constituency of New Delhi features a three-way contest between AAP leader and former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, BJP's Parvesh Verma, and Congress's Sandeep Dikshit, son of former Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit.

These elections hold significant stakes for the major political parties. AAP is vying for a third consecutive term, banking on its track record in governance, while the BJP is looking to reclaim power after a 27-year gap.

The Congress, which ruled the state for 15 years, is seeking a return after failing to secure a single seat in the 2015 and 2020 elections.

The counting of votes is scheduled for 8 February.
