While the turnout for Shillong parliamentary constituency was 61.18 per cent, Tura recorded 63.23 voter per cent.

The two Lok Sabha seats in Meghalaya recorded a voter turnout of 61.94 per cent till 3pm on Friday, chief electoral officer BDR Tiwari said.

Supporters of two candidates clashed near a polling station in the Bameng constituency in East Kameng district, Inspector General of Police (Law & Order) Chukhu Apa said, adding that the situation was brought under control and polling is continuing. An SUV carrying an electronic voting machine partially sank into a river after water level rose suddenly washing away a mechanised boat that was ferrying the vehicle in Assam’s Lakhimpur constituency on Friday, officials said. The driver and the polling officer of the vehicle managed to get out before water gushed into the vehicle, an official said. It was on its way to Amarpur area in Sadiya to replace an EVM after a technical glitch was detected in it as polling commenced in the morning, the official said.

IED blast in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur injures a CRPF commandant

In Chhattisgarh, more than 28% of the electorate cast their votes in the first four hours of polling in the Naxal-hit Bastar Lok Sabha constituency where an assistant commandant of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) was injured when an improvised explosive device (IED) planted by Naxalites went off in Bijapur district. A CRPF jawan deployed on poll security duty was also injured when a shell of an under-barrel grenade launcher (UBGL) accidentally exploded in Bijapur district.

Almost 0% voting in 6 Nagaland districts over separate territory demand

Almost zero voting has been recorded across six districts in Nagaland so far today, after the Eastern Nagaland People's Organisation - which is demanding a separate administration with more financial autonomy - declared a 'public emergency' and called on locals to boycott this election.

Violence breaks out in Inner Manipur constituency on polling day.

Despite stringent security arrangements, violence marred voting for the first phase of the Lok Sabha elections in the Inner Manipur constituency on April 19. Shooting by miscreants broke out at a polling station at Thamanpokpi under the Moirang Assembly segment. Three people are reportedly injured, prompting authorities to swiftly reinforce security measures in the area.

In Chhattisgarh, a Barel Grenade Launcher (UBGL) cell blast was reported.

The blast was reported from a Naxal-hit Bastar region 500 meters from a polling booth in Galgam area of Bijapur while elections were underway.

Sporadic incidents of violence are being reported from Cooch Behar, Jalpaiguri and Alipurduar.

By 10 am both TMC and BJP had lodged dozens of complaints each with the Election Commission for violence in Cooch Behar Lok Sabha seat.

Kolkata: WB Governor CV Ananda Bose reacts on alleged stone pelting incident in West Bengal's Medinipur.

Tura, West Garo Hills: Meghalaya CM Conrad Sangma visits polling station.

When I reached the polling station around 6:30 AM, there were around 200 people present at the polling station, which is a good message that people are participating in the voting process enthusiastically...A very good voter turnout can be seen in this election, says CM Sangma.

People start queuing up outside polling stations. The weather gods seem to have favoured the candidates in the fray in Assam today, as voters queue up to cast their votes. There were concerns that rain might play spoilsport in the state today, but all good so far. Dibrugarh, Jorhat, Lakhimpur, Sonitpur and Kaziranga Lok Sabha seats are going to the polls today. Fate of two of the most popular faces in Assam politics currently, Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal of the BJP and Congress's deputy leader in Lok Sabha Gaurav Gogoi, will be sealed today. Both the leaders were also spotted casting their votes in Dibrugarh and Jorhat respectively.
