A delegation from the EPS-95 National Agitation Committee (NAC) met with senior officials of the Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) on Tuesday to reiterate their demand for a minimum monthly pension of ₹7,500.
The group also called for comprehensive medical coverage for EPS members and their spouses, according to a statement from the EPS-95 NAC.
“We received an invitation from the EPFO for this meeting, aimed at addressing the unresolved demands of the pensioners,” said Ashok Raut, President of the EPS-95 NAC.
The pensioners' body has been advocating for an increase to ₹7,500 from the current average monthly pension of ₹1,450. Raut noted that pensioners have been demanding this increase for the past eight years, but the government has yet to act on their requests.
Earlier this month, Union Minister for Labour and Employment Mansukh Mandaviya met with representatives of the EPS-95 NAC and assured them that the government would take the necessary steps to address their concerns.
The EPS-95 NAC, which represents around 7.8 million retired pensioners and 75 million working employees in the industrial sector, is headquartered in Maharashtra.
