Eternal Ltd, the umbrella company which owns Zomato and Blinkit among other brands, has been asked by the GST department to pay a total tax demand of over ₹40 crore, including interest and penalty.
Joint Commissioner-4, Bengaluru, sent these orders for the period from July 2017 to March 2020, Eternal said in a late night regulatory filing on Monday and added that it plans to appeal against the orders.
"The company has received 3 orders on 25 August 2025 for the period July 2017 to March 2020 passed by Joint Commissioner, Appeals-4, Bengaluru, confirming total demand of GST of ₹17,19,11,762 with interest of ₹21,42,14,791 and penalty of ₹1,71,91,177," the company’s filing statement said, and added, "We believe that we have a strong case on merits, backed by view from lawyers and the company will be filing appeals against the orders before the appropriate authority”.

Zomato rebranded its parent corporate entity as Eternal Ltd, with the change becoming effective on stock exchanges from April 9, 2025. Deepinder Goyal, the founder, managing director, and CEO of Eternal Ltd, said the rebranding reflected the company's expansion beyond food delivery into verticals like quick commerce (Blinkit), B2B supplies (Hyperpure), and restaurant services (District), unifying these businesses under the new name, ‘Eternal’.
