In a bid to boost solar-power use in the country, the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy (MNRE) on Saturday announced the launch of a ₹2.3-crore start-up innovation challenge that will aim at accelerating rooftop solar installation and renewable energy adoption in India.

The unique programme seeks applications from innovators and start-ups in India that focus on four key categories to boost adoption of renewable energy – affordability, resilience, inclusivity, and environmental sustainability.

The applicants – who may represent a wide range of start-ups in green tech, IoT, AI, blockchain, construction, energy hardware, fintech, and waste management – would be required to identify and support breakthrough solutions for India’s rooftop solar and distributed renewable energy ecosystem, a statement by the MNRE said.
