Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal witnesses the signing of the Terms of Reference (ToR) for the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between India and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), in New Delhi on February 5, 2026.

India is currently negotiating six Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) with key partners as part of efforts to expand market access and strengthen global trade ties, the Ministry of Commerce said on Monday.

According to the ministry, negotiations are underway with Australia, Sri Lanka, Peru, Chile, Eurasian Economic Union and Israel as India pursues a broader strategy of deepening economic partnerships with multiple regions.

Talks for the India–Australia Comprehensive Economic Cooperation Agreement (CECA) began in February 2023 and have completed 11 rounds so far, with both sides continuing discussions on trade in goods, services and investment.

India is also negotiating the Economic and Technology Cooperation Agreement (ETCA) with Sri Lanka. Negotiations for the pact started in 2015, and 14 rounds have been held so far. The latest round of talks took place from July 24 to July 26, 2024.

Negotiations for the India–Peru Free Trade Agreement were launched in 2017, and nine rounds of discussions have been conducted. The most recent round was held between November 3 and November 5, 2025.

Meanwhile, India has initiated negotiations with Chile for a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA). Talks for the pact were launched on April 1, 2025, and four rounds of discussions have already been held, with the latest round conducted from December 1 to December 5, 2025.

The commerce ministry also confirmed that India has begun negotiations for a free trade agreement with the Eurasian Economic Union, a regional bloc comprising several post-Soviet states. The first round of negotiations for this proposed agreement took place from November 26 to November 28, 2025.

In addition, India has started discussions with Israel for a bilateral FTA, with the first round of negotiations held in February 2026.

The ministry said these negotiations form part of India’s broader strategy to strengthen trade relations with global partners and enhance export opportunities through comprehensive trade agreements.

Apart from the ongoing negotiations, India has recently signed FTAs with the United Kingdom on July 24, 2025, and Oman on December 18, 2025. Both agreements are currently awaiting ratification.

Meanwhile, negotiations for trade agreements with New Zealand and the European Union have already been concluded.

The ministry also noted that India has initiated negotiations for a Bilateral Trade Agreement with the United States in March 2025. On February 7, 2026, the two countries announced that they had reached a framework for an interim arrangement on reciprocal and mutually beneficial trade.

In addition, the India–Korea Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement with South Korea is currently under review for possible upgradation. The review process began in 2016, and 11 rounds of negotiations have been held so far.

The ministry said India has also signed Terms of Reference for upcoming trade negotiations, including a Preferential Trade Agreement with the Philippines, an FTA with the Maldives, an agreement with the Gulf Cooperation Council and a CEPA with Canada.
