Indian corporates are expected to witness stronger revenue growth in the current financial year, with aggregate revenues projected to increase by 9 per cent in FY27, compared with an estimated 5 per cent growth in FY26, according to global ratings agency Fitch Ratings. The agency believes the improved revenue trajectory, supported by steady domestic demand and continued economic expansion, will help maintain stable credit profiles for most rated Indian companies.

In its latest assessment of India's corporate sector, Fitch said the anticipated acceleration in revenue growth should support healthy operating performance and keep leverage levels under control. Stable cash generation and disciplined capital expenditure are also expected to contribute to resilient balance sheets across several industries.

The ratings agency noted that the outlook reflects improving business conditions after a relatively moderate FY26, when revenue growth slowed due to a combination of weaker global demand, pricing pressures in some sectors, and uneven export performance. As economic activity gathers momentum, corporates are likely to benefit from stronger consumption, higher investment activity, and continued infrastructure spending.

Despite the optimistic outlook, Fitch cautioned that several external risks could challenge the performance of Indian companies during the fiscal year. A key concern remains the possibility of renewed geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, particularly a re-escalation of hostilities involving the United States and Iran.

According to Fitch, any escalation in the conflict could lead to a sharp increase in global crude oil prices, creating significant headwinds for several sectors of the Indian economy. Higher oil prices would raise input costs for businesses, increase inflationary pressures, and affect consumer purchasing power.

Oil refining and marketing companies are among the sectors most exposed to such developments. Rising crude prices could widen fuel marketing losses if retail fuel prices are not adjusted in line with international markets. At the same time, these companies may face higher working capital requirements as inventory costs rise, placing pressure on free cash flows and liquidity.

The agency also highlighted potential challenges for India's chemical industry. Manufacturers could experience higher raw material costs due to increased energy prices, while elevated freight and logistics expenses could further squeeze profit margins. Softer global demand for chemicals, coupled with supply chain disruptions, may also weigh on export-oriented businesses.

Beyond sector-specific risks, Fitch warned that sustained increases in oil prices could have broader macroeconomic implications. Higher inflation could reduce household discretionary spending, affecting demand for consumer goods and services. Businesses may also delay investment decisions amid increased uncertainty, resulting in slower corporate spending on technology and digital transformation initiatives.

Technology companies, especially those dependent on discretionary enterprise spending, could witness softer demand if global economic confidence weakens. Similarly, consumer-focused sectors may face pressure as households prioritize essential expenses over discretionary purchases.

Nevertheless, Fitch believes that India's strong domestic economic fundamentals, ongoing government infrastructure investments, and a diversified corporate base will provide sufficient support to keep overall credit metrics stable. The agency expects most rated corporates to maintain adequate financial flexibility despite external uncertainties, supported by prudent financial management and healthy operating cash flows.

Overall, while geopolitical risks and commodity price volatility remain important factors to monitor, Fitch's outlook suggests that Indian corporates are well positioned to deliver stronger revenue growth in FY27, reinforcing the resilience of the country's corporate sector amid an evolving global economic environment.
