Sensex and Nifty opened marginally higher on fresh buying despite West Asia tensions, rising crude oil prices, a stronger dollar and mixed Asian cues.

The Indian stock market on Thursday witnessed a muted opening amid the ongoing West Asia tensions, rising crude oil prices, a strengthening dollar, and steady US federal rates. The benchmark Sensex recovered by nearly 44 points in early trade today on buying by funds and retailers amid a mixed trend in the Asian continent.

The 30-share index, which had lost nearly 219 points in the previous two trading days, recovered by 43.68 points, or 0.23 per cent, to 18,727.36.

On the other hand, the National Stock Exchange index Nifty moved up by 15.65 points, or around 0.28 per cent, to 5,701.90.
Stock market brokers said there was a fresh round of buying by major investors despite the ongoing and deepening Middle East crisis.

A similar trend was reflected in the broader Asian markets, which also saw mixed openings due to the closure of the Strait of Hormuz and decreased shipping activity in the region.

Japan’s Nikkei 225 shed nearly 0.73 per cent, while Hong Kong’s Hang Seng was trading up 0.3 per cent in early morning trade. The US Dow Jones Industrial Average had ended marginally higher by 0.03 per cent in the previous session.

The Indian stock market has been witnessing mixed and muted openings over the past few weeks, with fluctuations triggered by Strait of Hormuz disruptions and advanced AI tech stocks weighing on investor sentiment.
