Sensex rallies 759 pts, Nifty closes above 24,100

The 30-share BSE Sensex jumped 759.05 points or 0.96 per cent to settle at 79,802.79. During the day, it soared 880.16 points or 1.11 per cent to 79,923.90. The NSE Nifty climbed 216.95 points or 0.91 per cent to 24,131.10.

Sensex rebounds 759 pts, Nifty ends above 24,100 on gains in Airtel, RIL (Representative picture)


The benchmark Sensex surged by 759 points, while the Nifty closed above 24,100 on Friday, driven by gains in major stocks such as Bharti Airtel and Reliance Industries.

 

The 30-share BSE Sensex rose 759.05 points, or 0.96%, to finish at 79,802.79, after reaching an intraday high of 79,923.90, up 880.16 points, or 1.11%. Meanwhile, the NSE Nifty climbed 216.95 points, or 0.91%, to settle at 24,131.10.

 

From the Sensex pack, Bharti Airtel, Mahindra & Mahindra, UltraTech Cement, Adani Ports, Reliance Industries, Larsen & Toubro, JSW Steel, Hindustan Unilever, Titan, and Tata Motors were among the top gainers. On the other hand, Power Grid, Nestlé, State Bank of India, and Infosys were the biggest losers.


Most Adani Group stocks finished higher, with Adani Green Energy soaring by 21.72%, and Adani Energy Solutions surging by 15.56%.

 

The BSE Smallcap index advanced by 0.76%, and the Midcap index rose by 0.31%.


"A large-cap-driven, broad-based rally led the domestic market higher. The anticipated slowdown in India’s Q2 GDP to 6.5% has already been priced into Q2 corporate earnings, which the market appears to have discounted," said Vinod Nair, Head of Research at Geojit Financial Services.

 

Official data released after market hours showed that India’s economy grew at a slower rate of 5.4% in the July-September period of 2024-25, down from 8.1% during the same period last year.


Among sectoral indices, BSE Healthcare posted the largest gain, climbing 2.05%, followed by Telecommunications (up 1.53%), Utilities (up 1.46%), Energy (up 1.09%), Commodities (up 1.04%), and IT (up 1.02%). Real Estate was the only sector to decline.


A total of 2,347 stocks advanced, while 1,606 declined, and 97 remained unchanged on the BSE.

 

For the week, the Sensex gained 685.68 points, or 0.86%, and the Nifty rose 223.85 points, or 0.93%.


In Asian markets, Shanghai and Hong Kong closed higher, while Seoul and Tokyo finished in the red. European markets were trading lower, and US markets were closed on Thursday for Thanksgiving.

 

Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) sold equities worth ₹11,756.25 crore on Thursday, according to exchange data.


Global oil benchmark Brent crude dropped by 0.30%, settling at USD 73.06 per barrel.

 

The BSE benchmark had fallen sharply by 1,190.34 points, or 1.48%, on Thursday, while the Nifty tumbled by 360.75 points, or 1.49%, to 23,914.15.
