UK National Security Advisor Tim Barrow held discussions with his Indian counterpart Ajit Doval over a two-day visit commencing Thursday.

Central to their talks was the Technology and Security Initiative, a significant bilateral platform aiming to enhance collaboration in critical and emerging technologies between India and the UK.

Both NSAs engaged in substantive deliberations to chart the course for this initiative, recognizing the importance of leveraging technology to tackle shared security challenges.

Additionally, they exchanged perspectives on bilateral matters of mutual interest and explored viewpoints on regional and global affairs.

The issue of Khalistan was not explicitly addressed during the meeting, raising questions about its inclusion in the discussions.

Notably, extremist groups targeted the Indian High Commission in London in March last year. Last month, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) announced the arrest of a UK resident in connection with the violence during a protest on March 22 last year.

When queried about this during a press briefing by the External Affairs Ministry, spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal refrained from addressing the issue.

Barrow's visit to India spanned two days and encompassed participation in a high-level dialogue led by the NSAs of both countries, aiming to deepen cooperation across security, technology, and regional affairs.

During his visit, UK NSA Tim Barrow also met with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar to discuss various bilateral, regional, and global issues.

While details of the meeting were not extensively disclosed, discussions likely touched upon the volatile situation in West Asia.

This visit is expected to strengthen and expand the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between India and the UK.

Earlier in 2021, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his British counterpart Boris Johnson agreed upon the India-UK 'Comprehensive Strategic Partnership' and India-UK Roadmap 2030, outlining cooperation plans for the next three decades.
