The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Arunachal Pradesh is leading in one assembly seat, while the National People’s Party (NPP) is ahead in another, according to early trends from the counting of postal ballots, officials said Sunday.
BJP candidate Tsetan Chombay Kee is leading in the Kalaktang constituency, while NPP nominee Yeshi Tsewang is ahead in Dirang. Independent candidate Tenzin Nyima Glow is leading in Thrizino-Buragaon, according to data from the Election Commission.
The BJP has already secured 10 seats unopposed in the 60-member assembly. Elections for the remaining seats were held simultaneously with the Lok Sabha polls in the first phase on April 19.
Counting of votes for 50 assembly seats in the northeastern state began at 6 a.m.
Despite rain across the state, hundreds of supporters from various political parties gathered near the counting centers.
