Assam's Chief Electoral Officer, in collaboration with the Assam State Rural Livelihoods Mission and the Assam State Urban Livelihoods Mission, achieved a significant milestone by securing a place in the India Book of Records.

Over 40 lakh women members of Self-Help Groups (SHGs) from Assam united on a single day to pledge their support for the upcoming General Election to Lok Sabha in 2024.

This initiative aimed to uphold the democratic traditions of the nation and ensure the integrity of free, fair, and peaceful elections.

It also sought to enhance electoral participation not only quantitatively but also qualitatively through the effective implementation of the Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) program, a flagship initiative of the Election Commission of India.

Under the banner of SHGs 'Sarathi Baideo,' members actively engaged in establishing help desks at various government outlets in collaboration with District Administration and District Election Offices.

During a meeting held at the office of the Chief Electoral Officer in Dispur, adjudicator Narvijay Yadav from the India Book of Records verified the procedures and officially recognized the successful completion of the pledge-taking event.

The certificate was presented to Chief Electoral Officer Anurag Goel during the meeting.

Also present were Mission Director Masanda Pertin of the Assam State Rural Livelihoods Mission, Joint CEO Pankaj Chakravarty, and Emily Baruah.
