On Wednesday, Hollywood star Ben Affleck and his ex-wife, actor Jennifer Garner, shared a heartwarming moment as their 15-year-old child came out as transgender. During a memorial service for Garner's father, the teenager revealed their new gender-neutral name, Fin Affleck.
Dressed in a black tuxedo with a buzz cut, Fin bravely introduced themselves to the gathering, stating, "Hello, my name is Fin Affleck," before delivering a verse from the Bible.
Although Fin had sported the new haircut earlier this year, they chose Wednesday to come out as transgender and unveil their new name publicly.
Affleck and Garner, who separated in 2015, co-parent their three children: Violet Anne, 19; Fin Affleck, 15; and Samuel Garner, 12.
Affleck and Garner have advocated for their children's privacy, with Affleck even proposing legislation akin to the UK's law that mandates media outlets to blur children's faces in published photos.
"You can say what you want about me. You can yell at me with a video camera and be TMZ. You can follow me around and take pictures all you want. I don't care. That's part of the deal. But it's wrong and disgusting to follow children around, take their pictures, and sell them for money. It makes the kids less safe," he told a news outlet in 2013.
