Their rekindled romance was celebrated the world over by millions of fans when Bennifer, actor-filmmaker Ben Affleck and actor, singer and dancer Jennifer Lopez, both talented, both gorgeous, got back together in 2022, around 18 years after a broken engagement.
Two years later, however, the Lopez-Affleck saga is set to end. Once again.
Lopez filed for divorce on Tuesday in Los Angeles County Superior Court, court documents have revealed.
Theirs was a dream-come-true love story. Both first met on the sets of Gigli in 2002 and got engaged the same year.
However, both separated two years later in 2004, just four months before their wedding.
Affleck, according to Lopez, was uncomfortable with the “media scrutiny of their relationship.”
She moved on to marry singer Marc Anthony from 2004 to 2014 and shares two children with him.
Then she got engaged to New York Yankee Alex Rodriguez in 2019, breaking up with him in 2021.
Affleck married actor Jennifer Garner in 2005, with the couple going on to have three children together before divorcing in 2018.
The buzz around their relationship grew later after Lopez and Rodriquez separated in 2021 and she was seen again with Affleck.
Both were engaged in April 2022 and got married in Las Vegas, joining the regular queues with other couples just before midnight.
Lopez’s fan newsletter, the J Lo, made the announcement, saying "We did it."
"Behind us two men held hands and held each other. In front of us, a young couple who made the three hour drive from Victorville on their daughter’s second birthday — all of us wanting the same thing — for the world to recognise us as partners and to declare our love to the world through the ancient and nearly universal symbol of marriage."
Rumours grew stronger earlier this year and before that things weren’t quite all right with the marriage.
He was seen grimacing at events, and a video showed him banging a car door hard after she sat in it.
The two weren’t seen together for months.
According to the grapevine, Affleck had moved out of the house he shared with Lopez.
No prenup agreement had reportedly been signed before the marriage.
