Bollywood actor Mushtaq Khan, remembered for his performances in films such as ‘Welcome’ and ‘Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke’, died on Thursday, September 24. He was in his late 50s.
Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) president BN Tiwari confirmed Khan’s death over the phone. The actor had reportedly been undergoing treatment for lung cancer for a prolonged period. Further details about his demise are awaited.
Khan began his film career with ‘Albert Pinto Ko Gussa Kyon Aata Hai’ in 1980. Over more than three decades, he appeared in a broad range of Hindi films, including ‘Welcome’, ‘Gadar: Ek Prem Katha’ and ‘Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke’.
Among his most recognised performances was his comic role in ‘Welcome’. The scene featuring the dialogue, “Meri ek taang nakli hai, main hockey ka bahut bada player hoon”, became one of the film’s most popular moments. His natural comic timing helped make the character memorable for audiences.
Khan’s work in Hindi cinema and the humour he brought to his roles will remain remembered by film lovers.
