Samay Raina’s 1st YouTube post since 'Latent' row goes viral

Comedian Samay Raina has posted on YouTube for the first time since the India’s Got Latent controversy erupted. Instead of a video, he shared a text post exclusively for members, which received nearly 8,000 likes in a minute, as legal proceedings over the controversy continue.

Youtube content creator Samay Raina has posted on his YouTube channel for the first time since the controversy surrounding his web show, India’s Got Latent, erupted.

However, rather than uploading a video, Raina shared a brief text post, accessible only to his paid subscribers.

The post shared by Samay Raina.

Currently in Canada for his ongoing comedy tour, Raina has been at the centre of controversy in India following remarks made on his show by guest Ranveer Allahbadia.

The remark, which drew sharp criticism, led to multiple FIRs and legal proceedings, compelling Raina to delete all episodes of the show from his YouTube channel.

Samay's first YouTube activity since controversy

Late on Friday night, Raina took to his channel and shared a post with just two emojis—a heart and a hug—typically used to signify solidarity and support.

The post, visible only to members of his YouTube community, did not include any accompanying video.

Despite its restricted access, the post garnered swift engagement. Within a minute, it had received nearly 8,000 likes.

A screenshot shared by a fan on YouTube revealed that the post had accumulated 7,500 likes within a minute of being uploaded.

On Reddit, users noted the rapid increase in engagement. One commenter highlighted that the post had surpassed 10,000 likes within four minutes.

“It has 11k likes in 4 minutes on members only. That’s big in my opinion,” wrote one user.

Another remarked, “Ye to bhot kam hai, Agar woh normal post krta to 1L+ likes ho jate ab tak.” (This is too less. Had he posted normally, it would have been 100k.)

Speculations surrounding the post

Fans speculated on the reasons behind Raina’s decision to share a text post rather than a video.

“He must be thinking of editing and posting a video but then he must have realised that he can't. So that’s all he can post now,” opined a Reddit user.

The comedian has not yet addressed the controversy in any new videos, although he had previously spoken about it during a live show, where he thanked his audience for their support and for contributing towards his legal fees.

The India’s Got Latent Controversy

Raina’s YouTube show, India’s Got Latent, came under intense scrutiny after guest Ranveer Allahbadia, also known as BeerBiceps, made a controversial remark during a recent episode.

The joke, perceived as inappropriate, triggered widespread backlash, resulting in legal action against Raina, Allahbadia, and other panellists.

Following the uproar, Raina removed all episodes of the show from YouTube, and the matter escalated to the Supreme Court.

While the legal proceedings continue, his latest YouTube post suggests he remains connected with his audience despite the ongoing turbulence.
