In continuation of his series that deal with the theme of specially-abled youngsters, Bollywood actor Aamir Khan’s latest, ‘Sitaare Zameen Par’, has already earned ₹50 crore at the worldwide box office in two days of its release this past Friday.
The film is billed as a ‘spiritual sequel’ to the critically-acclaimed movie, ‘Taare Zameen Par’, focussing on the themes of inclusivity and empowerment of those born with special abilities as well as challenges.
The film has been written by Divy Nidhi Sharma, directed by R S Prasanna, and produced by Aamir Khan alongside Aparna Purohit and Ravi Bhagchandka.
According to the trade tracking website Sacnilk, the film has collected ₹30.9 crore net at the domestic box office in these two days over the weekend.
The story of Sitaare Zameen Par follows the journey of a basketball coach (played by Aamir Khan) who mentors 10 differently-abled individuals.
Besides Khan, the film also stars Genelia D'Souza, Aroush Datta, Gopi Krishna Varma, Samvit Desai, Vedant Sharma, Ayush Bhansali, Ashish Pendse, Rishi Shahani, Rishabh Jain, Naman Mishra, and Simran Mangeshkar.
The first in Khan’s series on children with special abilities and the challenges they face in learning at school was Taare Zameen Par, which released in 2007. It started child actor Darsheel Safary as the protagonist while Khan portrayed the role of a school teacher who helps Safary's character uncover his potential after discovering he has dyslexia.
