In a much-anticipated return to the silver screen, Bollywood icons Shah Rukh Khan and Rani Mukerji are set to share screen space once again in the upcoming film King. The film, which also stars Suhana Khan in a major role, is expected to be a high-profile action-thriller with deep emotional undertones.
This marks the first time in 19 years that Shah Rukh and Rani will be seen together in a full-fledged film since their last appearance in Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna (2006).
According to a report by entertainment portal Pinkvilla, Rani Mukerji has been cast to play Suhana Khan’s mother in the film. Her role is being described as pivotal to the film’s narrative and emotional core, with her character acting as a catalyst for the unfolding events.
The report added that it was an easy decision for Rani to join the project after hearing the script, which she reportedly accepted without hesitation.
The film is directed by Siddharth Anand, known for his work on high-octane projects, and will be produced on a grand scale. The project brings together several major talents from the industry, with names like Jackie Shroff, Anil Kapoor, Arshad Warsi, Abhishek Bachchan, Deepika Padukone, Jaideep Ahlawat, and Abhay Verma associated with the ensemble cast. The film is expected to go on floors on May 20, followed by a lavish international shooting schedule in Europe.
While Shah Rukh Khan and his daughter Suhana have already made headlines for their on-screen collaboration in King, the confirmation of Rani Mukerji’s role has added a nostalgic layer to the film.
The on-screen pairing of SRK and Rani has been celebrated by audiences for decades, with their past collaborations in blockbusters such as Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, and Paheli among others.
Rani Mukerji’s last theatrical appearance was in the critically praised drama Mrs. Chatterjee vs Norway in 2023.
