Actor Ali Fazal has long championed diverse storytelling, and his recent projects further solidify his dedication to supporting women-led narratives.

From his role as a producer in the internationally acclaimed film Girls Will Be Girls to his involvement in the upcoming Rule Breakers, Fazal remains steadfast in his efforts to amplify stories that place women at the center.

However, Fazal’s advocacy extends beyond his on-screen roles. Alongside his wife and fellow actor Richa Chadha, he co-founded Undercurrent Lab, an initiative aimed at empowering women in cinema by providing them with training and opportunities across various aspects of filmmaking.

This commitment reflects his broader vision for inclusivity in the entertainment industry.

Speaking about his passion for such narratives, Fazal stated, “Storytelling is a powerful tool, and for far too long, the narrative has been skewed in one direction. But the tide is turning, and I’m proud to be part of that shift. Girls Will Be Girls was just the beginning. With Rule Breakers, we are pushing boundaries even further. These stories aren’t just important—they are essential. They challenge norms, dismantle stereotypes, and bring forward perspectives that have been largely overlooked in mainstream cinema.”

Fazal further emphasized that his efforts go beyond simply acting in or supporting women-centric films. He envisions a more inclusive industry where female writers, directors, and technicians are given equal opportunities to thrive.

“I will continue doing this for as long as I’m on screen. It’s not just about supporting women-led films—it’s about making sure the entire industry evolves to be more inclusive. That’s precisely why Richa and I started Undercurrent Lab—to create real, tangible change. We want to equip more women with the tools, resources, and platforms to tell their stories in their own way. Cinema is evolving, and I want to be on the right side of that transformation. The future belongs to diverse voices, and I am here to champion them.”

Ali Fazal has consistently balanced mainstream success with projects that hold deeper artistic and social significance. His unwavering support for female-driven storytelling and industry inclusivity sets an inspiring example for emerging filmmakers and actors.

With Rule Breakers recently making its US debut and Undercurrent Lab continuing to foster new talent, Fazal’s mission to empower women in cinema remains a work in progress—one that he shows no signs of slowing down.
