Early trends from vote counting on Tuesday indicated that the Congress party is leading in Haryana while engaged in a close contest with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Jammu and Kashmir.
In Haryana, Congress was ahead in 24 seats, with the BJP trailing on 19 seats. Early postal ballot trends also revealed that two seats were showing support for 'others'.
In Jammu and Kashmir, the Congress-National Conference alliance was tied with the BJP at eight seats each, while the People's Democratic Party (PDP) had yet to lead in any seat, as reported by various television channels.
Vote counting commenced at 8 am, beginning with postal ballots, followed by the counting of votes cast via electronic voting machines (EVMs) half an hour later.
These are preliminary trends, and final results may differ significantly.
