Eleven Indian crew members were injured after the Panama-flagged commercial vessel MT On Peace was struck by a projectile while passing through the Strait of Hormuz on Tuesday. India has condemned the attack.
The vessel had 19 crew members on board, of whom 17 were Indian nationals. Twelve crew members were injured in the incident, including 11 Indians, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said.
The MEA said the vessel was attacked off the coast of Oman and described the continuing attacks on shipping in the region as a matter of “deep concern” for India.
India called for an immediate end to such attacks, saying that the safety of commercial vessels, seafarers and civilian infrastructure must be ensured. It also urged the restoration of navigation and commercial activity through international waterways at the earliest.
With assistance from the Omani authorities, the injured crew members were evacuated and taken to Khasab in Oman for medical treatment. The MEA expressed its appreciation for the support provided by the Omani authorities.
