The Lebanese health ministry reported that 11 individuals were killed and 48 others injured in Israeli airstrikes in the Tyr region on Monday.
The strikes come weeks after Israel ended ground operations in the area. Earlier strikes in Tyr destroyed several heritage sites and injured 16 people.
Previously, an Israeli airstrike in Beirut claimed the life of Mohammed Afif, Hezbollah’s media relations chief. The Israel Defence Forces (IDF), in a post on X, described Afif as the "Chief Propagandist and Spokesperson of Hezbollah."
According to the IDF, Afif was a senior Hezbollah military commander who played a central role in advancing the organisation’s anti-Israel operations.
The IDF further accused Afif of glorifying violence in Lebanese media and inciting anti-Israel sentiment.
"Afif’s role in Hezbollah’s operations proves his involvement in terrorist activities against the State of Israel," said the IDF.
The strikes in Tyr and the death of Afif follow a flash bomb attack at Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s residence on Sunday. Israeli authorities have arrested three suspects in connection with the incident, which marks the second attack on Netanyahu's residence.
In October, his private residence was reportedly damaged by a Hezbollah drone, though no casualties were reported.
The ongoing war between Israel and Hamas has now escalated, engulfing neighbouring regions, including Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, and Iran.
