15 dead in Sri Lanka bus crash, vehicle plunges 1000 feet

Bus plunges 1000 feet after road accident in Sri Lanka, killing 15.


Fifteen (15) people are dead, and fifteen sustained injuries in a road accident in Sri Lanka’s Badulla District of Uva Province. As per the police report, a group of thirty (30) people was on a trip from the southern town of Tangalle when their bus went down a precipice over 1000 feet around in the Ella town around 9 pm local time on Thursday.
 
The bus had collided with an oncoming jeep before hitting the road railing and going down. The dead include nine women. They were all employees of the Tangalle Urban Council.
 
The rescue efforts were undertaken by the military, police, disaster management teams, and residents, as per the media reports.
 
Officials said the injured have been admitted to the Badulla Teaching Hospital, with several said to be in critical condition, a media outlet reported.
