The death toll from the Afghanistan earthquake surged 1400 on Tuesday, with 3,251 others injured, said the Afghan Red Crescent Society. Reports indicate that approximately 8,000 residential houses, primarily in Kunar province, have been completely or partially destroyed due to the earthquake, said the head of information and publication at the Afghan Red Crescent Society on Tuesday morning.
Relief and rescue teams are working to retrieve the people trapped under the rubble, and the figures for fatalities and injuries are still increasing.
The earthquake struck the eastern part of Afghanistan at 11:47 pm local time on August 31, with the epicentre located 27 km northeast of Jalalabad, the capital of Nangarhar province, at a depth of eight km.

“This is a tragedy on an immense scale,” a senior Taliban official said, adding that hospitals were overwhelmed with the injured and that urgent medical and humanitarian assistance was needed. The tremor was felt across several provinces, with the hardest-hit areas reporting collapsed buildings, blocked roads, and entire families buried beneath debris.
The disaster will make things even harder for the South Asian country that is already dealing with a lot of issues, such as aid assistance from foreign countries. The earthquake with a magnitude of 6 caused more than 3000 injuries, according to a statement from the Afghan interior ministry, which is controlled by the Taliban.
The ministry also reported that 1400 people had died. The state-owned broadcaster in Afghanistan, Radio Television Afghanistan (RTA). Three villages were razed in the province of Kunar, with substantial damage in many others, the health ministry said.
