The Bangladesh government protested to India on Thursday regarding former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s activities while in India. This includes a speech she gave that was shared on social media just a day earlier.
Officials in Bangladesh believe that her speech led to the violent destruction of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s house.
Calling Hasina’s speech an "act of hostility" towards Bangladesh, the country’s foreign affairs department has urged the Indian government to take immediate action against her. They emphasised the importance of mutual respect and understanding between the two nations.
Bangladesh has formally expressed its “deep concern and disappointment” by handing over a protest note to the Indian High Commissioner in Dhaka.
“The Bangladesh government strongly protests against the false and misleading statements made by former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has officially raised this issue with the Indian government, stating that her speeches on various platforms, including social media, are inciting instability in Bangladesh,” the ministry said in a statement.

The statement further mentioned that Hasina’s actions are damaging relations between Bangladesh and India.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has urged India to take necessary steps to stop her from spreading false and provocative messages using social media and other communication platforms while she is in India,” the statement added.
Meanwhile, thousands of protesters in Bangladesh destroyed and set fire to the home of the country’s founding leader, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. This happened after Hasina delivered a passionate speech at around 9 pm on Wednesday, urging members of her party’s student wing, Chhatra League, to oppose the interim government.

Protesters used bulldozers, hammers, and other tools to attack the house in Dhanmondi. Some even brought cranes and excavators to demolish the building. Hasina is also scheduled to speak to Awami League workers at 9 am on Thursday.
Photos shared on social media show that most of the building has been destroyed, with some parts burned down completely.
The Bangladesh government has blamed Hasina’s speech for the attack.
“For the past six months since Hasina left the country, there were no attacks on the house. This incident happened on Wednesday night after she made an inflammatory speech, insulting those who sacrificed their lives in the July uprising. Her words encouraged violence. We request the Indian government not to allow Hasina to use their country to carry out anti-Bangladesh activities,” another statement from the government said.
