As the Israeli government plans to intensify Gaza operations despite much international criticism, Beijing has urged Israel to 'immediately halt' its actions in the occupied Gaza Strip.
The Chinese deputy permanent representative to the UN called for broader Arab regional unity to counter Israel’s plans in the Gaza Strip. The Israeli Prime Minister has finally revealed his true war objectives in Gaza, which include the complete occupation of the land, including the areas where captives might be held by Hamas.
The representative further said Israel was looking to dramatically escalate the situation in the already war-torn and devastated enclave. At a United Nations Security Council meeting on Tuesday, Geng Shuang said Israel must ‘immediately halt such dangerous actions’.
He expressed support and offered mediation to settle 'one of the world’s longest-pending disputes, which remains a flashpoint for global geopolitics and a challenge for world communities’.
Meanwhile, the Israeli security cabinet meet on Thursday to decide the future course of action in Gaza after Prime Minister Netanyahu on Tuesday met with military leadership, calling for a complete takeover of the Gaza Strip. Reacting to his statement, the Palestinian Ministry for Foreign Affairs condemned such a strategy and urged the international community to ‘intervene urgently to prevent their implementation’.
In a statement, the Chinese foreign ministry not only condemned the move but also called for ‘greater Arab unity among the regional nations to prevent what Netanyahu plans to do with Gaza’. China was among the first nations to support the Palestinian National Liberation Movement, known as Fatah, and in 1988, Beijing officially recognised the state of Palestine.
