Demolition of schools in West Bank unacceptable, says France

Calling for accountability of the Israeli regime, France termed the actions as “illegal under international law” and said Israel has to stop making moves that destroy important infrastructure in the occupied West Bank

French authorities have strongly criticised Israel’s demolition drive on an under-construction school in the northern part of the West Bank.

Calling for accountability of the Israeli regime, France termed the actions as “illegal under international law” and said Israel has to stop making moves that destroy important infrastructure in the occupied West Bank.

"France strongly condemns the destruction by Israeli authorities of a school under construction in the northern West Bank, funded by the French Development Agency in cooperation with the European Union.

The French foreign ministry sees the destruction of schools as a blatant violation. We are demanding accountability from the Israeli authorities for this demolition," the Foreign Ministry said in a statement, and stated it is the second demolition of a French-funded project in the West Bank, after the Al-Bustan centre in East Jerusalem.

France has been one of the few European countries voicing staunch criticism against Israel’s offensive, asking and demanding that the international community act against Israel over its ongoing war conduct in Gaza.

For years, Israeli forces and the country’s government have forced hundreds of thousands of Palestinians out of their homes under what the international community views as a colonial settler project.

The violence has been sporadic in the West Bank, particularly in certain areas like the Sheikh Jerrah neighbourhood, where Israeli authorities have disenfranchised several hundred families since 2023.

Meanwhile, over the ongoing Israeli forces' unaccounted killing of aid-seekers in Gaza, Turkish President, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, urged the international community to act urgently as the territory is nearing total collapse.

A collapse in Gaza would only help Israeli authorities and their ambitions to settle what Netanyahu sees as part of the “biblical Greater Israel Kingdom”, while tormenting the lives of the innocent civilians living in the occupied territory.
