External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar is set to visit the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Sunday to discuss a wide range of partnership issues with his UAE counterpart, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan. The meeting aims to strengthen the strategic partnership between India and the UAE.

According to an official statement from the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), the visit will allow both leaders to review the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries and discuss regional and global developments. This meeting is expected to cover various aspects of the bilateral relationship, including economic cooperation, security, and cultural exchanges.

Jaishankar's visit to the UAE follows his recent trip to Sri Lanka, where he met with Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena on June 20. During his visit to Colombo, Jaishankar reaffirmed India's steadfast support for Sri Lanka through various development and connectivity projects. This was Jaishankar’s first bilateral visit as External Affairs Minister after his reappointment.

In Colombo, Jaishankar also met with Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe. The two leaders appreciated the progress made on several bilateral projects and initiatives. They jointly unveiled a virtual plaque to mark the formal commissioning of the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre, built with a $6 million grant from India.

The discussions in Sri Lanka focused on future cooperation between India and Sri Lanka, particularly in the sectors of power, energy, connectivity, port infrastructure, aviation, digital technology, health, food security, education, and tourism. Jaishankar also participated in the virtual commissioning of the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre and the virtual handing over of 154 houses under Indian government housing schemes.

In a post on X, Jaishankar expressed his satisfaction with the outcomes of his visit to Sri Lanka, stating, "Concluded a productive visit to Sri Lanka, my first in this new term. We will always be a reliable friend and a dependable partner for our Sri Lankan friends." The visit underscored the importance of Sri Lanka in India’s ‘Neighbourhood First’ Policy and SAGAR Vision.

The upcoming visit to the UAE is part of India's ongoing efforts to enhance its diplomatic and strategic relationships in the region. The UAE is a significant partner for India, with strong economic ties and shared interests in regional security and stability.

The talks between Jaishankar and Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan are expected to further solidify the partnership between India and the UAE, exploring new avenues for cooperation and collaboration. This visit reflects India's commitment to strengthening its relationships with key partners in the Gulf region and beyond.
