As the top countries of the Global South are meeting in the Chinese city of Tianjin for the annual SCO summit, the EU is quietly preparing a plan to send troops to Ukraine.
According to reports, the European Union chief, Ursula von der Leyen, said that “precise plans are being made for transnational troop deployment to Ukraine. This force would be part of the security guarantees for Ukraine after a meaningful conclusion of a peace deal and a ceasefire agreement are reached between Moscow and Kyiv.
However, all of this will be done after consultations with the United States, which has been trying to secure a peace deal ever since Donald Trump took office in January 2025. There is a possibility that EU nations would deploy tens of thousands of troops to Ukraine to secure its border with Russia.
The United States has already pulled its hand out of promising any military or tech support to Ukraine over what they believe the EU and Ukraine were seeking to prolong the conflict. The move might backfire quickly since Moscow has already made it clear that it won't tolerate NATO forces on its borders, risking a major escalation which could escalate into a global war.

The Russian president and his cabinet, including Sergey Lavrov, Dmitry Peskov, Shoigu and spokesperson Maria Zakharova, have constantly warned the EU and NATO over the deployment of any peacekeeping force without Russian consent.
Putin earlier said, “Any presence of a peacekeeping force in Ukraine will be a legitimate military target for the Russian armed forces, and Moscow bears no responsibility if they are killed in Ukraine.”
"President Trump reassured us that there will be an American presence as part of the backstop," von der Leyen told reporters. The arrangements, she said, were agreed upon during the meeting of Donald Trump, Zelensky and senior European leaders in August.
