G7 Leaders Support Biden's Plan for Gaza Peace Urge Hamas Acceptance.

The leaders of the Group of Seven (G7) have called on Hamas to accept Israel's proposal to end the ongoing war in Gaza. This appeal comes after the comprehensive deal was outlined by US President Joe Biden.

The G7 leaders expressed their solidarity with the proposal and urged countries with influence over Hamas to ensure the group's acceptance of the deal.

In their statement, the G7 leaders fully endorsed the deal, which aims to lead to an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, the release of all hostages, a significant and sustained increase in humanitarian assistance throughout Gaza, and an enduring end to the crisis.

They emphasised that the deal would ensure Israel's security interests and the safety of Gazan civilians.

The G7 leaders also reaffirmed their support for a credible pathway towards peace that leads to a two-state solution. They urged Hamas to accept the deal, which Israel is ready to move forward with, and called on influential countries to help ensure Hamas' compliance.

US President Joe Biden had previously announced Israel's proposal for a comprehensive new deal aimed at achieving a ceasefire in Gaza and securing the release of hostages held by Hamas. This proposal, transmitted by Qatar to Hamas, outlines a roadmap towards a ceasefire.

The initial phase, spanning six weeks, involves a complete ceasefire, the withdrawal of Israeli forces from all populated areas of Gaza, and the release of several hostages, including women, the elderly, and the wounded, in exchange for the release of hundreds of Palestinian prisoners.

President Biden held discussions with the Emir of Qatar, Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, to emphasise the importance of securing Hamas' acceptance of the deal. The conversation highlighted how the ceasefire and hostage deal offer a concrete roadmap for ending the crisis in Gaza.

This announcement follows Israel's presentation of new ideas regarding hostage and ceasefire negotiations. These ideas were discussed earlier in the week, although details about them were not disclosed.

The G7 leaders' call for Hamas to accept the deal and the urging of influential countries to ensure compliance reflects the international effort to bring an end to the conflict and establish lasting peace in the region.
