Senior officials from India and Australia have reviewed the progress of discussions on the proposed free trade agreement between the two nations, the Commerce Ministry announced on Monday.
The two countries implemented an interim trade pact in December 2022 and are now negotiating to broaden its scope into a Comprehensive Economic Cooperation Agreement (CECA).
"The three-day stocktake visit for the India-Australia CECA concluded in New Delhi on 6 December," the ministry stated.
The discussions covered several critical aspects of the agreement, including trade in goods, services, mobility, agri-tech cooperation, and more.
"They also focused on market access modalities that align with India's food security objectives," the statement added.
Both parties assessed the progress achieved so far and mapped out a pathway for the early finalisation of the CECA.
The Indian delegation was led by Additional Secretary and Chief Negotiator, Department of Commerce, Rajesh Agrawal, while the Australian delegation was headed by First Assistant Secretary and Chief Negotiator, Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Ravi Kewalram.
