Community members and officials attend the inauguration of India’s new Consular Application Centre in Dallas, opened to serve the growing Indian-origin population in the region.

Stepping up efforts to cater to the expanding Indian diaspora in the United States, the Consulate General of India in Houston has inaugurated a new Indian Consular Application Centre (ICAC) in Dallas, Texas, marking a significant milestone in India’s citizen-service outreach abroad.

Located at 8360 Lyndon B Johnson Freeway, Suite A-230, the Dallas ICAC was virtually launched by India’s Ambassador to the United States, Vinay Kwatra. The on-ground ceremony was led by Consul General D C Manjunath, accompanied by local elected officials and representatives of the Indian-American community.

The Dallas facility is one of nine new centres being rolled out across the United States with the aim of bringing key consular services closer to communities residing far from embassy and consulate locations. Other centres are being opened in Boston, Columbus, Detroit, Edison, Orlando, Raleigh, San Jose, and an upcoming centre in Los Angeles.

“The launch of these new consular application centres across the US is part of our mission to serve the Indian diaspora more effectively by bringing services closer to their homes,” said Ambassador Kwatra. “We remain committed to strengthening the ties between India and its global community.”

Consul General Manjunath highlighted the importance of the move for residents in Texas: “Dallas has a large and dynamic Indian community. Opening this ICAC means residents can now access vital consular services quickly without travelling to Houston. It’s truly bringing the Consulate to your doorstep.”

The new centre offers a comprehensive range of services including passport issuance and renewals, visa and Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) applications, power of attorney, birth and marriage certificates, attestations, police clearance for foreign nationals, No Obligation to Return to India (NORI), and life certificates.

Local leaders welcomed the launch as a step towards inclusivity and accessibility. Texas State Representative Vikki Goodwin remarked, “This new consular centre is an important resource for our Indian-American neighbours, making government services more accessible and convenient.”

Dallas Indian Association president Rajesh Mehta called the development “a game changer for Dallas-area residents”, adding, “It shows India’s dedication to its diaspora and makes a real difference in people’s lives.”

The centre will operate six days a week, from Monday to Saturday.

The Indian diaspora in the United States has grown steadily over the years, now exceeding 4.8 million people according to US Census and Pew Research estimates. The Dallas-Fort Worth area is home to one of the fastest-growing Indian communities in the country, comprising a significant professional and entrepreneurial class.

The expansion of consular infrastructure comes at a time when India is actively pursuing engagement with its global diaspora through measures such as Pravasi Bharatiya Divas, outreach on OCI benefits, and simplifying overseas documentation processes.
