India has initiated diplomatic efforts to secure the release of 17 Indian nationals who are on board an Israeli-linked container ship seized by the Iranian military. The seizure of the ship, MSC Aries, occurred amidst escalating tensions between Iran and Israel.

According to official sources, India is in communication with Iranian authorities both in Tehran and Delhi to ensure the welfare and prompt release of the Indian crew members. The Indian government is closely monitoring the situation and is committed to ensuring the safety and security of its citizens.

"We are aware that a cargo ship 'MSC Aries' has been taken control by Iran. We have learnt that there are 17 Indian nationals onboard," stated a source familiar with the matter. "We are in touch with the Iranian authorities through diplomatic channels to ensure security, welfare, and early release of Indian nationals," the source added.

Reports indicate that the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guards seized the MSC Aries on Saturday morning while it was navigating through the Strait of Hormuz.

The seizure comes amidst heightened tensions in the region, fueled by concerns of potential retaliation from Iran following a recent strike on the Iranian consulate in Syria.

The incident underscores the volatile nature of the geopolitical situation in the Middle East and the potential risks faced by maritime vessels navigating through strategic waterways like the Strait of Hormuz. The Indian government remains committed to safeguarding the interests of its citizens abroad and ensuring their safe return to the country.

India's proactive engagement with Iranian authorities reflects its commitment to resolving the situation through diplomatic channels and ensuring the well-being of its citizens.

As the situation continues to unfold, India will continue to closely monitor developments and take necessary steps to ensure the safe return of its nationals.
