A 23-year-old Indian student, Aryan Reddy, tragically passed away on November 13 in Atlanta, Georgia, while celebrating his birthday. Aryan, a Master of Science student at Kansas State University, accidentally shot himself with a hunting gun he had recently bought.

The gun misfired while he was cleaning it during the celebration. Aryan, originally from Sairam Nagar in Telangana, had just received his hunting gun license in the U.S.

According to reports, after hearing the gunshot, his friends rushed to the room and found him lying in a pool of blood. They quickly took him to a nearby hospital, but he was declared dead.

The bullet had struck his chest, and despite their efforts, he could not be saved. Aryan's family, who now live in Uppal, Telangana, is waiting for his body to be sent back to their hometown later that night.

Aryan’s father, Sudarshan Reddy, expressed his grief and warned other parents about the dangers of students owning firearms abroad. He urged that no family should go through such a heartbreaking loss.

This incident highlights ongoing concerns about gun violence in the United States. There are growing calls for stricter gun control laws, including mandatory training, better storage rules, and stronger background checks.

In response to the rising violence, the Biden-Harris administration has introduced measures to tackle gun violence. This includes creating a task force to address threats from machine-gun conversion devices and untraceable, 3D-printed guns.

The administration is also working to provide schools with guidance on handling active shooter situations and minimising the trauma caused by drills.

President Biden has called for a stronger focus on gun control, including reinstating the assault weapons ban and restricting high-capacity magazines.
