Indian students in Canada panic over document resubmission

The IRCC has reportedly requested the resubmission of essential documents, including study permits, visas, and educational records like marksheets and attendance records.

Canada has long been a favoured destination for Indian students.

Indian students studying in Canada are feeling anxious after receiving emails from Immigration Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) asking them to resubmit important documents like study permits, visas, and educational records such as marks and attendance.

This request has caused concern among students, many of whom have valid visas for up to two years. The move comes after IRCC recently canceled the fast-track Student Direct Stream (SDS) visa programme, which was designed to manage the number of international students.

Canada has also introduced stricter requirements for financial aid applications.

According to reports, several students, especially from Punjab, were called to IRCC offices last week for verification of their documents. These changes have left students worried about their status in Canada.

The Indian High Commission has highlighted that India is the largest source of international students in Canada, with around 4,27,000 Indian students currently enrolled.

In response, students are asking the IRCC for clearer communication to ease their concerns. They are also being advised to follow the instructions to avoid any complications.

This situation comes amid broader changes in Canada’s immigration policies.

On October 24, Immigration Minister Marc Miller announced a reduction in the target for new permanent residents, with Canada planning to admit 3,95,000 residents in 2025, down from the 4,85,000 expected in 2024.
