Iran's Supreme National Security Council declared in a formal statement that it had made a "national decision to impose the cessation of war on the Zionist enemy [Israel] and its vile supporters."

The Supreme National Security Council of Iran formally announced a ceasefire with Israel on Tuesday, claiming that Tehran's military goals had been effectively met during the 12-day conflict. In a tense two weeks that witnessed a sharp increase in hostilities between the two countries, the announcement represents a critical turning point.

The announcement of the ceasefire followed US President Donald Trump's confirmation that Israel and Iran had reached a military halt. Trump said in a statement on Tuesday that leaders from both nations had come to him at the same time and asked for a truce. Trump claimed that the ceasefire would benefit not only the area but the entire world, saying, "They came to me and said, 'Peace!'"

Iran's Supreme National Security Council declared in a formal statement that it had made a "national decision to impose the cessation of war on the Zionist enemy [Israel] and its vile supporters." Iranian leadership presented the announcement as a victory, claiming that the military campaign had achieved its strategic objectives.

The Iranian military also reaffirmed its determination to put an end to any hostile actions directed towards Israel. They did, however, warn that the military was still on high alert even though they would be monitoring the ceasefire. According to the statement, "The armed forces will respect and cease all hostile activities against Israel but will remain in full readiness to deliver a decisive and deterrent response to any aggression by the enemy."

The Iranian military commended its soldiers, saying that Israel was forced to resign and express regret due to their "courage and sacrifice." The statement went on to say that the enemy "was forced into regret and accepted defeat, resulting in the unilateral cessation of its aggression."

Tensions are still high despite the official ceasefire; hours after President Trump's announcement, Israel accused Tehran of breaking the truce. According to Israeli officials, Iran violated the recently signed agreement by launching new missile attacks.

The Iranian military leadership quickly refuted these charges. The Chief of the Armed Forces' General Staff, Major General Abdolrahim Mousavi, categorically denied that Iran had launched any missiles at Israel in the hours after the ceasefire was declared. “These reports are completely false. Iran has not launched any missile attacks and holds no responsibility for such baseless claims made by the enemy,” Mousavi stated. He added that Iran had not concealed its involvement in the 12-day conflict and had publicly admitted its military actions. "Every strike we have executed has been our own. We don't use deceit like our enemies do.

Iranian officials, on the other hand, charged Israel with disseminating false information and falsifying facts, especially in relation to its military campaign in Gaza. Iranian sources pointed to previous incidents in which the Israeli military, particularly its ultra-nationalist elements, were accused of fabricating events or denying responsibility for attacks. These reports state that Israel's attack on Gaza has killed 56,000 people, injured over 130,000, and left tens of thousands more buried beneath debris.

The international community keeps a close eye on the ceasefire as it develops. Although the ceasefire temporarily stops fighting, the long-standing hostilities between Israel and Iran—as well as the terrible toll on civilians—remain a sobering reminder of how precarious regional peace is.
