Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), with assistance from Iraqi militia groups, launched a series of drone and missile attacks on US bases in Iraq as part of retaliatory strikes against American interests in the region.
Officials reported that an explosive-laden drone targeted the Rasheed Hotel (also known as the Royal Tulip Hotel) in Baghdad’s heavily fortified Green Zone.
The hotel houses several top foreign diplomatic missions, including those of the European Union and Saudi Arabia, as well as foreign employees of oil companies.
It is located not far from the US Embassy. Pro-Iran militias have confirmed their role in striking US bases in Iraq.
The attack came a day after US and Israeli joint strikes targeted locations of the Popular Mobilisation Forces (PMF) in Al-Qaim, killing and wounding several personnel.
The war in Iran continues to expand rapidly. Suspected Iranian drones struck the Qatari capital, Doha, in the early hours of Tuesday, triggering panic and prompting authorities to issue an advisory urging residents to stay away from windows, glass facades, and exposed areas until the threat passed.
Similar strikes were reported in the UAE, where the Defence Ministry confirmed that air defence systems were actively repelling attacks.
The ministry stated that the loud sounds being heard were “air defence systems intercepting missiles and drones.”
Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Defence reported intercepting and destroying drones in the eastern region of the country.
Earlier, the ministry said six drones were also engaged and destroyed in the same area.
