The German foreign minister, Johann Wadephul, has said that Israel was facing a risk of complete global isolation due to its war conduct in Gaza. He said Germany was concerned and felt obliged to protect Tel Aviv from the isolation.
He said the situation in Gaza is 'beyond imagination' and said that the Israeli government needs to showcase tolerance and make sure that it is not pursuing a policy of expulsion and annexation.

Wadephul said in Israel, “A state cannot function if it has no friends and support in the international community; therefore, Tel Aviv needs to find friends and supporters who are seemingly shunning Israel for Gaza.“ Global isolation is a dangerous situation to be in, especially when you are in a state of war.
If the international community feels it has no responsibility to prevent this, then in my view, Germany will step up,” he said. He also said Israel had a responsibility to allow humanitarian and medical aid into Gaza "quickly, safely, and sufficiently to avert mass deaths."
He made these comments after arriving in Israel as part of a two-day state visit that will see him visit the Israeli-occupied West Bank. Israel’s war on Gaza has killed 60,249 people and wounded 147,089 others. An estimated 1,139 people were killed in Israel during the Hamas-led October 7, 2023, attack, and more than 200 were taken captive.
