Hezbollah on Sunday launched more than 250 rockets and air projectiles into Israel, injuring seven people. This offensive comes in retaliation for deadly Israeli airstrikes that resulted in hundreds of casualties in Lebanon.
An Israeli airstrike on an army base in Lebanon killed a Lebanese soldier and injured 18 others in Tyre and Naqoura, located in the country's southwest, according to the Lebanese military.
The Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) confirmed that the strike targeted a Hezbollah-controlled area, stating that its operations are exclusively focused on militants.
Since the outbreak of the Israel-Hezbollah conflict, over 40 Lebanese soldiers have lost their lives.
Lebanon’s caretaker prime minister, Najib Mikati, condemned the Israeli airstrike, labelling it an attack on ongoing US-led ceasefire negotiations.
Mikati described the strike as a “direct, bloody message” rejecting efforts to end the conflict.
The IDF reported that around 250 projectiles were launched at northern Israel, some of which were intercepted by the country's missile defence systems.
The latest figures from the Lebanese Health Ministry show that Israeli airstrikes have killed over 3,700 people in Lebanon and displaced approximately 1.2 million.
Meanwhile, the bombardment of northern Israel has killed about 90 Israeli soldiers and 20 civilians. Over 60,000 Israelis have been displaced from the country's northern regions due to the ongoing hostilities.
The European Union’s top diplomat called for increased pressure on both Israel and Hezbollah to reach a ceasefire agreement, stating that a final deal is awaiting approval from the Israeli government.
As negotiations for the release of around 100 hostages held in Gaza continue to stall, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s reluctance to cease hostilities in Gaza and Lebanon remains a significant obstacle.
