Israeli jets pound Hezbollah’s underground arms site in Lebanon

The Israel Defence Forces launched overnight airstrikes on Hezbollah sites in Lebanon’s Bekaa region, targeting underground weapons facilities. This comes amid ongoing tensions despite a ceasefire and threats from Hezbollah and Yemen's Houthis to escalate the conflict. Experts doubt peace will hold.

The Israel Defence Forces (IDF) conducted overnight aerial strikes targeting Hezbollah assets in Lebanon’s Bekaa region, citing threats to Israeli border residents and its defense forces.

Among the targets was a military site equipped with underground infrastructure reportedly used for weapons development and transit near the Syria-Lebanon border.

Israeli sources alleged that Hezbollah operatives were utilising these facilities for transferring arms.

The IDF also stated that a Hezbollah drone, intercepted by the Israeli Air Force (IAF) on Thursday, violated an understanding between Israel and Lebanon.

Despite a ceasefire between the two nations, skirmishes frequently occur in southern Lebanon.

Reports indicate Israel continues to maintain a significant troop presence there, despite pledges to withdraw systematically.

Hezbollah has threatened renewed attacks if Israeli forces fail to withdraw entirely from southern Lebanon.

Meanwhile, Yemen's Houthi rebels have also warned of strikes on Israel-bound vessels in the Red Sea in a show of solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza.

Though the fighting between Israel and Hezbollah has subsided, experts remain sceptical about the sustainability of the fragile ceasefire involving Israel, Hamas, and Hezbollah.
