Strengthening Ties Between India and Georgia Highlighted on National Day.

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar extended warm greetings to his Georgian counterpart, Ilia Darchiashvili, and the people of Georgia on their National Day.

Jaishankar expressed his hopes for the continued growth of bilateral relations between India and Georgia, highlighting the positive trajectory of their partnership. "Warm greetings to FM Ilia Darchiashvili and the friendly people of Georgia on their National Day. May our relationship keep growing for the benefit of our peoples," he said in a post on social media platform X.

This message comes amidst a series of significant interactions between India and Georgia, underscoring the strengthening ties between the two nations. In recent years, there has been a notable rise in high-level engagements.

One of the key events was the 7th India-Georgia Foreign Office Consultation held in New Delhi in November 2023, which marked a crucial step in diplomatic engagement.

The year 2023 also witnessed celebrations commemorating the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between India and Georgia, further highlighting the depth of their bilateral relationship. These events have showcased the commitment of both nations to nurturing their partnership.

Economic cooperation has been a cornerstone of the relationship, with bilateral trade reaching USD 432.35 million in the fiscal year 2022-23.

This growth was further supported by initiatives such as the India-Georgia business meet organised by Pharmexcil in Tbilisi in March 2023. These efforts have helped bolster economic ties, creating opportunities for businesses and fostering economic growth in both countries.

India has also played a significant role in capacity building in Georgia through programs like the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC). Georgian professionals have benefited from annual slots provided by India, enhancing their skills and capabilities.

Notably, the first special course for Georgian diplomats was conducted at the Sushma Swaraj Institute of Foreign Service (SSIFS) in New Delhi in October 2023, reflecting India's commitment to strengthening diplomatic ties and enhancing professional capabilities.

Cultural exchanges have further cemented the relationship between the two countries. A statue of Mahatma Gandhi was unveiled in Tbilisi Park in July 2021, symbolizing the shared values of peace and non-violence. Additionally, the inauguration of a gallery for the relics of St. Queen Ketevan at the Archaeological Museum of Goa in May 2023 highlighted the historical connections between the two nations.

In September 2022, a Georgian theatre group performed across various locations in India, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of Georgia and fostering mutual appreciation and understanding.

The multifaceted cooperation between India and Georgia continues to strengthen across various sectors. From diplomatic engagements and economic cooperation to cultural exchanges and capacity building, both nations have shown a shared commitment to mutual prosperity and friendship.

As they celebrate Georgia's National Day, the growing partnership between India and Georgia stands as a testament to their enduring friendship and collaborative spirit.
