Chinese President Xi Jinping met with Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko in Beijing on Wednesday, reaffirming the strong and enduring ties between the two nations.

Congratulating Lukashenko once again on his re-election, Xi described China and Belarus as “true friends and good partners,” bound by mutual sincerity and trust.

He said the relationship between the two countries is built on a long-standing tradition of friendship, robust political trust and expanding cooperation across all sectors.

“China has always viewed and developed China-Belarus relations from a strategic and long-term perspective,” Xi said, according to Chinese state media. He added that Beijing is committed to working with Minsk to ensure the stable growth of bilateral ties and promote mutually beneficial cooperation.

Xi also called for stronger coordination between the two countries in multilateral platforms such as the United Nations and the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation. He said China and Belarus should jointly oppose hegemony and acts of bullying, while safeguarding international fairness and justice.

Lukashenko, who is on his 15th visit to China, said he had always felt a sincere sense of friendship from the Chinese leadership. He expressed gratitude for China’s sustained support and assistance to Belarus over the years.

“Belarus has a high degree of trust in China and is committed to deepening cooperation,” he said. Lukashenko praised China’s defence of multilateralism and its opposition to unilateral sanctions and pressure, saying the country sets an example for the international community.

The meeting comes amid efforts by both leaders to strengthen their global alliances and align on key issues related to international governance and development.
