Russian foreign minister Sergey Lavrov has said that German leaders are towing Hitler’s line, which aims to dominate Europe and inflict a strategic defeat on Russia.

 

Lavrov has warned of the consequences of what he calls Berlin’s dangerous build-up, which goes beyond the defence. To put things into perspective over the situation developing between the two neighbours, Germany is a staunch supporter of the Ukrainian regime, helping the Zelensky regime with weapons aid.

 

He said, “It’s not just militarisation; there are clear signs of re-Nazification. And why is this being done? Well, probably with the same goal that Hitler had – to dominate all of Europe. And to try to inflict a strategic defeat on the Soviet Union, in the case of Hitler, and in the case of modern Germany and the chorus of main soloists from the European Union and NATO, on the Russian Federation.”

 

He further accused the Chancellor, Friedrich Merz, of seeking to transform Germany once again into “the main military machine of Europe”, citing his increasingly militaristic rhetoric.

Merz has openly spoken about his ambitions on several occasions, where he said he wants to create the strongest military in Europe. Lavrov said that his country has taken note of what the German chancellor has continuously reiterated. 

 

Lavrov, who happens to be one of the dominant voices in Russia’s politics, has said, “When a person in a country that committed the crimes of Nazism, fascism, the Holocaust, and genocide says that Germany must again become a great military power, then of course he has an atrophy of historical memory, and this is very, very dangerous.”

 

Merz this week said that “we may not be in a war, but we are also not living in peace” and called for confiscating Russia’s frozen assets to bolster Kyiv.

 

Lavrov said that Berlin’s policies prove its direct hand in the proxy war against Russia and warned that aspirations of recreating the “fourth Reich” will bring the two sides to a standstill.
