North Korean leader Kim Jong Un on Thursday lauded and commended his overseas forces fighting on behalf of Russia against Ukraine, KCNA said. He said his forces will continue to fight for the Russian side till Moscow achieves its military objectives in the war.
He met with the commanders of the Korean people’s army overseas operations unit on Wednesday as they head back to the country to attend a commendation ceremony, the reports said.
North Korean troops, considered one of the fiercest military forces in the world, have helped Russian forces in liberating the Kursk region and Kherson and seizing the strategic regions of Sumy and Odessa. According to some military experts, it was because of the inclusion of some 10,000 North Korean troops that allowed Russian forces to capture swathes of land in Ukraine.

Meanwhile, Kim received a briefing on the military activities of North Korea’s forces abroad and “highly regarded their feats of leading the combat of units of our armed forces, which participated in the operations to liberate the Kursk region of the Russian Federation, to victory."

Reacting to the development, South Korea’s unification ministry said the meeting had once again confirmed the role of the North Korean forces in the Ukraine war. Wednesday's meeting "appears aimed at justifying the deployment and boosting morale," said an official at the ministry.
Earlier, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, during his three-day official visit to Pyongyang, said that he 'admires and appreciates' the role of the North Korean forces in assisting the Russian forces against. He even termed the relations with Pyongyang as brotherly and assured all possible help by extending cooperation in the fields of science, technology, trade and defence.
