As many as 40,000 people have been shot in the United States in 2025, resulting in the deaths of around 14,600 and causing injuries to 26,100, according to a report released by the Gun Violence Archive (GVA).
Findings of the report revealed that the country witnessed at least 407 incidents of mass shootings in 2025. The report categorises a Mass shooting as an incident where at least four or more people were targeted, excluding the attacker.
GVA, a non-profit organisation, was established in 2013 to provide free public access to accurate information on gun-related violence in the United States.
The data showed that 2025 saw 224 children aged below 11 years killed by the gunfire, with more than 461 others in the same age group suffering injuries in the alleged attacks. Besides, 1,030 adolescents aged 12 to 17 were killed in shootings, and 2,733 were injured.
The GVA report included the death stats from homicides, murders, defensive gun use, and accidental shootings, but excludes suicides.
Additionally, citing preliminary reports from the US Centres for Disease Control and Prevention, the GVA reported that more than 24,000 people died by firearm suicides in 2025.
Meanwhile, other reports indicated that although shooting-related deaths and injuries have declined for four consecutive years since 2021, more than 40,000 people have lost their lives in firearm-related episodes in 2025 alone. This means that, on average, more than 110 people were killed or injured by gun violence per day in 2025.
It is worth mentioning that the United States reports every year the highest number of deaths linked to mass shootings and gun-related violence among developed nations.
In one of the famous shooting incidents last year, Charlie Kirk, a conservative activist voice and Trump supporter, was killed while he was delivering a speech at the University campus in Utah. The US President Donald Trump also survived an assassination attempt during his presidential campaign last year.
