PM Modi holds a meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping.

Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said on Sunday that Prime Minister Narendra Modi brought up the issue of cross-border terrorism during his meetings in China and asked Beijing for help in dealing with that problem.

He mentioned that the Chinese side supported India during a news briefing in Tianjin, which took place alongside the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit. Misri mentioned that during the Prime Minister's one-on-one talk with Chinese President Xi Jinping, fighting terrorism was a main topic discussed.

"Cross-border terrorism was mentioned by the Prime Minister as a priority. This is something that impacts both India and China and it is important, therefore, that we extend understanding and support to each other as both of us combat this scourge. We have received the understanding and cooperation of China as we have dealt with the issue of cross-border terrorism in the context of the ongoing SCO summit," he said.

PM Modi emphasised the importance of both nations extending mutual understanding and cooperation in the fight against terrorism, the Foreign Secretary continued.

"The issue was discussed. It was raised by the Prime Minister. He outlined his understanding very crisply and specifically. He outlined the fact that this is the scourge that India and China are both victims of. He asked for China's support, and the Chinese side has extended support," Misri said.
