Protests erupt in Israel over hostage release deal

The protesters included the families of the released captives, along with those currently in Hamas captivity inside Gaza.

Protests explode across Israel amid growing frustration over the war in Gaza.

Thousands of people in Tel Aviv have taken to the streets to protest against the Israeli government’s plan to expand military operations and reoccupy the Gaza Strip, reports said on Monday.

The Israeli government recently approved the plan to put more pressure on the resistance group Hamas amid stalled ceasefire negotiations. On Sunday, a massive rally opposing the decision took to the Tel Aviv streets, demanding an immediate halt to Israeli operations in Gaza.

The protesters included the families of the released captives, along with those currently in Hamas captivity inside Gaza. The organisers of the protests said, “Nearly half a million people participated in the demonstrations in the largest commercial hub of Tel Aviv.”

The father of one of the hostages called for the early release of the captives and an end to the conflict that has devastated Gaza and left nearly 62000 dead and displaced nearly the entire 2.1 million population.

He accused the Israeli government of allegedly letting his son die due to starvation, the very same tactic Israel has been enforcing on the innocent civilian population, including the children and women in Gaza. Demonstrators calling for an immediate deal gathered outside the prime minister's office in Jerusalem and blocked a highway.

The Israeli Prime Minister, who dreams of rebuilding the Biblical times' Greater Israel at the cost of the civilians, has said that those who are calling for an immediate end to the war without defeating Hamas are hardening the Islamic group's stance and delaying the release of hostages.

According to the mediators Qatar and Egypt, the Israeli government had no such objectives as defeating Hamas; rather, the goal was what Netanyahu recently said, the creation of the Greater Israel.

Experts believe that Israel would not be able to defeat Hamas in its entirety due to a lack of reserves, and also the fighting will. Several Israeli soldiers have recently ended their lives while fighting in Gaza.
